Zimmerman High School will add cross country this fall, announced activities director Jamie Hilyar on Wednesday.
“Most schools our size have cross country,” said Hilyar. “This will be a real positive thing for us.”
The new program was approved by the District 728 school board Tuesday.
ZHS surveyed the student body this past spring about cross country.
“We had 17 kids say they’d run if we have a team,” said Hilyar, adding that only the senior high was polled, so additional middle school runners are also expected.
Hilyar said that a coach will be named within a couple of weeks.
