Baseball: Pioneers lose playoff opener to Albertville 11-4

Corey Nelson had three RBI and Todd Klaers had three  hits as the Albertville Villains beat the Elk River Pioneers 11-4 Saturday in their North Star League playoff opener in Albertville.

Elk River (4-18) will play at Rogers on Sunday, 2 p.m., in the double-elimination playoffs.

Nelson delivered an RBI double and RBI triple and finished 2-for-4. Klaers was 3-for-4 with an RBI

Aaron Daugherty knocked in two runs with a single in the seventh for Elk River. and finsihed 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Albertville starter Brian Lampert pitched six-plus innings, allowing four runs, striking out five, and got the win. Jason Wood pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

Tony Jarmoluk took the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) in 5 1/3 innings. Lance Johnson allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings. The Pioneers had four errors.
