Baseball: Pioneers lose to Howard Lake, Albertville

The Elk River Pioneers lost twice over the weekend, one pitchers duel and one blowout, and fell to 2-17 for the season.

Howard Lake’s Jake Streich outdueled Elk River’s Alex Hoff in a pitchers’ battle Saturdayas the Orphans (11-3) beat the Pioneers 3-0.

Streiich twirled seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out four, and Jared Cook tacked on two scoreless innings.

Hoff went the distance, giving up just four hits and no earned runs, striking out four.

Conor Edwards, Jim Brown, and Aaron Daugherty had the  hits for Elk River. Eric Schreifels was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, run and RBI for the winners.


Albertville 14, Elk River 5


Todd Klaers knocked in four runs as Albertville thumped the Pioneers 14-45 on Sunday. Klaers was 2-for-4 with a homer and scored twice.

Cory Kaminsky took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) and seven hits in four innings. Tony Jarmoluk threw the last five innings, giving up seven runs, walking five.

Edwards and Aaron Daugherty were each 3-for-5 for the Pioneers. Daugherty scored two runs.

Brian Lampert got the win for Albertville (6-7), throwing seven innings, giving up 12 hits, and striking out six. Matt Mcneil pitched two innings of relief.

Elk River plays Mound at Loretto Monday at 7:30 p.m.
