Monkey bites girl at campground

A 9-year-old girl was bitten by a monkey at Wapiti Park Campgrounds in Elk River.
The owner of the monkey was visiting friends at Wapiti Park and had the monkey in a cage, according to Elk River Police Capt. Ron Nierenhausen.
The girl approached the cage and was subsequently bitten by the monkey.  The monkey is technically a service animal and the state is aware of the monkey’s presence in Minnesota, according to the police report.
The bite was reported to police at 10:14 a.m. July 6. The girl was not seriously hurt and did not require any stitches.
