Baseball: Elk Legion drops 3 games, playoffs next

Elk River Legion finished the regular season with a 4-10 record after three losses this week, and will open district  playoffs Tuesday at St. Cloud.

Post 567 lost to Waite Park 13-0 on Tuesday, with Josh Wood throwing a five-inning, five-hit shutout. Aaron Pipenhagen took the loss.

Princeton nipped Elk River 6-5 in nine innings Wednesday.

St. Cloud Chutes stymied Elk River 3-1 on Thursday, with Tucker Morrell pitching well in defeat, striking out five in a complete game. Andrew Thome twirled four innings for the Chutes and got the win, with Sean Giambruno  throwing two shutout frames and Matt Dietman one.

Elk River is seeded sixth and will face No. 3 Waite Park on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Putz Field in St. Cloud. The tournament starts Monday. Other district teams are Becker, Big Lake, St. Cloud Chutes and 76ers, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, Zimmerman, and St. Augusta.
