The new Granite Ridge Conference that includes Zimmerman will add an eighth team, Albany, announced conference president Aaron Sinclair.
The GRC’s seven members voted unanimously on Wednesday evening to accept Albany starting in the 2011-12 school year, Sinclair reported.
“Albany was going to be without a conference and they fit well with our membership, both geographically and program-wise,” said Sinclair, the Little Falls activities director.
“With the likelihood that Albany would be placed into our conference by the Minnesota State High School League, ours schools chose to voluntarily welcome Albany and work cooperatively for the benefit of all involved.”
The GFC’ will start this fall with Foley, Little Falls, Milaca, Mora, Princeton, St. Cloud Cathedral and Zimmerman. Next year, Albany and Becker will join.
Zimmerman and Princeton were Mississippi 8 members previously and Becker will stay in the M-8 one more year.
