Dr. Jill (Hadler) Schultz, co-clinical director of the Minnesota Opening Eyes event at the Minnesota Special Olympics, reported a record number of Special Olympian eye exams this year.
“The event was a great success,” she said. “We had 450 athletes participate in eye exams, and when needed, prescriptions were filled and glasses were obtained at the event the same day.”
The event took place June 24 and 25 at Bierman Field, University of Minnesota.
Schultz, of Bright Eyes Vision Clinic in Otsego, is a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association Board of Trustees.
Objectives of Opening Eyes include providing eye exams to Special Olympics athletes, and educating athletes, parents and coaches about the importance of regular eye exams.
