Elk River police responded to a close call between a motorist and a truck driver.
The driver of a passenger car said she was side by side with a semi and its trailer near a “closed lane ahead” merge point while she was in the left lane of eastbound Highway 10 just west of the Highway 169 overpass. The driver stated the semi began to merge from right to left and forced her onto the shoulder where she struck a sign.
The truck driver stated he was in the right-hand eastbound lane and began to merge into left lane while the other vehicle was 100-plus feet behind the end of his trailer.
The truck driver stated that this motorist attempted to speed up and pass him on the shoulder to avoid being stuck behind the semi.
Both parties stated there was no vehicle-to-vehicle contact.
