CenterPoint grant buys new radios

CenterPoint Energy presented Otsego with a $2,500 check at the June 27 city council meeting.
It will be used to purchase new 800 Mhz radios.
Otsego City Planner Dan Licht says the grant, given for safety uses, comes at a great time.
“All cities have a federal mandate to upgrade their communications systems by 2013,” Licht explains, “and we needed to update our system anyway.”
The city planner says more cities like Otsego, Elk River and Rogers are using the 800 Mhz radios for their entire city’s communications system.
Otsego has yet to determine how many radios it will need to replace the old system currently in place.
