Opinion: Thanks to all those who supported ArtSoup Festival
A couple of weeks ago, the Arts Alliance presented the seventh version of ArtSoup in downtown Elk River. For one long day, there was art up and down the street, in buildings and in the parking lot. There was music and more on the stage in the park, and all day there were people strolling around downtown enjoying the scene and the food offered by the downtown eateries.
I am writing to thank all the folks who made it possible. RSVP and all the other volunteers, without whom ArtSoup simply would not be possible, the Lions Club with their big tent for shelter, Parks and Rec for the beautiful River’s Edge Commons Park and their supply of the more mundane needs like trash barrels to keep things neat. The city’s Public Works Department and the police helped make closing one street possible and kept the vendors and public safe on Main Street. Elk River Utilities and Andy’s Electric once again made sure we had enough power for all the events.
There are a host of others who worked for months to ensure that ArtSoup went well, and they all deserve recognition. Finally, I must thank all the people who came downtown to support the artists and organizations who offered their imagination and creative talent for all to enjoy. — Dave Raymond, Elk River (Editor’s note: Raymond is the chair of the Elk River Area Arts Alliance Board of Directors.)
