The Elk River Pioneers had an early six-run lead but lost to the St. Michael Saints 9-8 on Wednesday evening in St. Michael.
The Saints scored five runs in the fifth off Lance Johnson and reliever Dan Ebner. Johnson gave up six runs (five earned) in four-plus innings, and Ebner gave up three in five innings, taking the loss.
Jake Braun was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Tony Jarmoluk 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI for Elk River (1-14).
Alan Frank got the win for St. Michael (11-1) despite giving up eight runs (six earned) in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out six. D.J. Hess pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the save.
Chris Volkmann was 3-for-5 with four RBI for the Saints.
