A three-run homer by Garrett Ott was the big blow as Elk River Legion edged Sartell 6-5 at home Monday evening.
“It was a well played game by both teams, each only making one error,” noted Tony Williams, Elk River coach. “Elk River again played a strong defensive game and used a timely hit to win it.”
Ott’s blast in the last of the sixth gave Elk River the lead. Sartell loaded the bases in the seventh against Aaron Pipenhagen but he got the final out by deftly fielding a swing bunt.
Tucker Morrell hit a two-run single during a three-run second inning by Elk River. Sartell got a two-run double from Blake Buggenberger in the third, and a two-run double by Eric O’Leary in the fifth, taking a 5-3 lead.
Josh Marlin pitched four innings (two runs) and Pipenhagen three innings (three runs) with Pipenhagen getting the win in relief. They combined for a six-hitter with seven walks and seven strikeouts.
Austin Buggenberger pitched the distance for Sartell, giving up five hits and five walks, strikinoug out six.
Elk River will play at Sauk Rapids on Tuesday evening and will host Zimmerman on Thursday evening.
