Bicycle drive nets more than 230 bikes
A drive for bike donations to benefit those less fortunate has been a smashing success, as people in the area responded by giving more than 230 bikes to Mr. Michael Recycles Bicycles.
The small non-profit organization takes bikes in any condition, shape or size and refurbishes them, as needed, to new condition to give to low-income, homeless and disabled people of all ages.
Sherburne County mental health social workers Virginia Vik and Darrin Krenz spearheaded the two-hour, June 20 bike drive.
Vik says so many bikes were donated the organization, which normally needs two or three bike drives a summer to meet the demand and need, will only need this one bike drive.
“People were coming in droves with bikes to give,” Vik says. “It was very exciting. People were so generous. We just want to thank everyone who gave a bike.”
