Baseball: Pioneers notch first win, lose twice in tourney

The Elk River Pioneers picked up their first win over the weekend while also losing twice at the Isanti tournament.

The Pioneers (1-12)  lost to Anoka 6-1 on Friday, and beat St. Paul Mudens 8-2 and lost to Mora 5-2 in the consolation finals, both on Sunday. They were rained out Saturday.

Elk River will play at Dassel-Cokato Wednesday 7:30 p.m.


Anoka 6, Pioneers 1

Anoka had a six-run third inning including a two-run single by Kyle Griffin and RBI double by Chad Severson. Jacob Anderson pitched 5 2/3 innings in the  seven-inning game and Michael Herwerth finished.

Jim Brown took the loss giving up six runs in six innings. It was a Both Corey Kaminski and Aaron Daugherty were 2-for-4 for Elk River.


Pioneers 8, St. Paul Mudhens 2


Dan Ebner pitched all seven innings for the win.

Anthony Kopka was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and two runs for the Pioneers.

Taylor Pillioh took the loss for St.Paul, giving up eight runs (five earned) in 4 2/3 innings.  Mitch Sellers was 2-for-3 with a triple.


Mora 5, Pioneers 2


The Blue Devils scored four in the top of the seventh off Corey Kaminski, breaking a 1-1 tie in the finalsinning.

Kaminsky allowed five runs (four unearned) in 6 1/3 innings, striking out two. Lance Johnson got the final two outs.

Aaron Daugherty was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Austin Kopka  2-for-3 for the Pioneers.

Jake Oslin got the win for Mora, pitching six innings, allowing one run, and striking out three. Justin Krle gave up a run in the seventh. Sean Graff was 2-for-4.
