Sprint car race fans will get a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of professional dirt track racing when the World of Outlaws returns to the Princeton Speedway June 25.
Craig Dollansky, the hometown favorite known as the crowd pleaser, will be hosting an open house open to the public on the day of the big race.
It will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dollansky’s shop, 10842 313th Ave. NW, Princeton. The racer will be available from noon to 1 p.m. to sign autographs. There will be prize giveaways, refreshments and snacks.
There will also be a drawing for an honorary crew member to join the team at the track and be a crew member for that night of racing.
Dollansky’s race team has also been working with Molly Hanson of the Elk River YMCA to provide youth and their mentors an up close and personal look at sprint car racing.
Dollansky, an Elk River native who lives in Zimmerman when he’s not out on the road, will be providing 30 tickets for a youth group and mentors to attend the race. They are also invited to the open house and will be given a full tour of the operation and get to check things out in the pits before racing begins on Saturday night.
Dollansky will be racing along with the rest out the World of Outlaws traveling tour and many local racers.
Dollansky is currently sixth (116 points out of first place) in series points after numerous rainouts and a few DNF’s for the team.
Dollansky has won two races this season, one in Chico, Calif. and another in Salina, Kan. and has given away at least three, including a second-place finish after running out of fuel coming to take the checkered flag. The two others were motor failures.
Dollansky is racing with three major sponsors. They are: Big Game Treestands out of Windom, Minn., Aggressive Hydraulics in Blaine, Minn. and Karavan Trailers in Fox Lake, Wis. He also has an associate sponsor in Aeroquip Performance Products by Eaton Corporation.
As far as the race goes, here are the details.
The pit gates will open at 2 p.m., the grandstands at 4 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
