ERHS trap shooters cap season at state meet

The Elk River High School Trap Shooting Club.

Elk River High School’s trap-shooting club team capped its season at the Minnesota State High School Clay League’s state tournament Saturday and Sunday at Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.

Zach Church placed sixth in the overall top gun category. He missed his first target, then hit the next 74.

“We had a successful season, and we are looking forward to next spring,” said advisor Denise Eidem.

Twenty ERHS students participated in the state meet, including varsity, junior varsity and novice. Over 550 students participated in the state meet.

Church’s scores were 24-25-25-22–96. Jayson Thompson had 90, Luke StearnsĀ  87, Rob Wild 84, Sam Justin 82, Joe Stevens 81 and Tyler Meyers 78.

During the regular season, Elk River placed second behind Rogers in the North conference. New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale Geneva, Hopkins and St. Paul Academy won the other divisions.
