Chris Donnay, former Elk wrestler, is the new Rogers High School wrestling coach.
Donnay, 38, a world history teacher at the middle school, had nine years experience as an assistant coach with Elk River and two with Rogers.
“I am very excited to have this opportunity,” said Donnay, also co-coach of the Royal softball team. “I have wanted to be a head wrestling coach since I started coaching when I was 20.”
Donnay, approved by the school board on June 1, succeeds Matt Leshovsky, the only wrestling coach Rogers has had, who resigned after the 2010-11 season.
“His years of experience was a big factor,” said Paul Gustafson, Rogers activities director. “Plus, he is familiar with our program … One of his main goals will be to get the numbers up in our program,” said Gustafson.
Donnay was a three-year starter for the Elks. He attended Anoka-Ramsey and St. Cloud State, and joined the Elk staff while in college.
