Baseball: Pioneers lose to Rogers, Delano in extra innings

The Rogers Red Devils outlasted the Elk River Pioneers 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday at Hales Field in Elk River, in a duel of two teams looking for their first win.

Bryan McCallum was 3-for-4 and Wayne Jensen got the win for Rogers (1-4). Jensen threw nine innings, striking out nine, allowing three runs. Andy Peterson gave up a run in the 10th, striking out two, and got the save.

The Pioneers  led 3-0  in the third as Pat McCarthy doubled home a run, and Austin Kopka singled home two more.

“We played hard, but not hard enough to win” said manager Ken Ott.

Mathias Duevel pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, and striking out eight. Jim Brown took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing two runs.

McCarthy was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Kopka was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Pioneers lose to Delano in 11

The Pioneers lost again in extra innings on Sunday, to Delano 6-4 in 11 innings at home. Dan Ebner pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (none earned) and struck out seven. Conner Edwards the last four inning, giving up four runs (two earned), and took the loss. Tony Jarmoluk was 3-for-6 with one RBI.

Delano’s Jeff Janzen pitched eight innings, allowed four runs, and struck out six. Matt Arens won in relief, striking out three in three innings. Andy Brown was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two walks for Delano (4-2).
