Baseball: Thunder done after 8-5 loss to Maple Lake

The Zimmerman Thunder’s baseball season ended in the second round of playoffs with an 8-5 loss to Maple Lake on Wednesday in Delano.

After reaching section finals last year and returning most of the squad, the Thunder finished 11-10 including one playoff win, 13-11 over Rockford on Tuesday. They had won nine of their last 11 before losing to Maple Lake.

Maple Lake (12-9) had a pair of two-run homers, by Mitch Wurm and Brian Redemske, off Thunder starter Chad Korlath for a 4-3 lead after five innings. Wurm was also the starting and winning pitcher.

The Irish then scored four in the sixth, helped by two errors, off Korlath and Kyle Connelly for an 8-3 lead. Kam Crandall pitched a scoreless seventh.

Crandall was 3-for-3 for the Thunder, Luke Schmidt 2-for-4, and Connelly had an RBI double.
