The Elk River Pioneers scored their first runs of the season but lost twice over the weekend, both times by a 5-3 score, to Rockford on Saturday at home and to Albertville on Sunday on the road.
The Pioneers (0-4) had been blanked their first two games. Mathias Duevel knocked in the first run of the year for the Pioneers with an RBI single in the fourth against Rockford. Aaron Daugherty was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ebner was 2-for-4.
The lefthanded Duevel threw 6 1/3 innings and gave up five runs in taking the loss. Dan Ebner threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
For Rockford (3-0), Jake Gleason threw seven innings, allowing one run. The Pioneers got two off Cole Hansen in two innings.
Hansen was 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs, and an RBI. Nick Main was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Albertville Villains (2-5) scored two runs in the eighth to beat the Pioneers on Sunday.
Tony Jarmoluk was 4-for-4 with a walk and RBI for Elk River, which had 12 hits but left 15 runners on base.
Jarmoluk took the loss on the hill, throwing six innings, giving up three runs. Alex Hoff gave up two runs in two innings.
Ryan Klingelhofer pitched five innings (two runs) and got the win, with Jason Wood earning a save with four innings and just one run allowed.
Christian Hess and Todd Klaers were both 2-for-4 with a double. Hess scored two runs and Klaers knocked in three runs.
