The Elk River boys placed seventh among 11 teams in the Northwest Suburban Conference meet on Tuesday and Thursday at Coon Rapids.
Elk senior Cory Chouinard earned all-conference in two events, placing third in the 200 dash with 23.05 and third in the long jump with 20-8. He also ran on two relay teams that placed fourth, the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200, which had a season best by two seconds with 1:32.61. That quartet had Phil Hoff, Chouinard, Zach Holbrook and Logan Grace.
“Cory Choiunard had a phenomenal meet,” said coach Brian Gilbertson. “He podium- finished in all four events: 4 x 100 (eighth), 4 x 200 (fourth), and long jump and 200. He led the first 150 meters of the 200. This was an outstanding performance in what is considered one of the top conferences in the state.”
The Elks did not place in eight of the 14 individual events.
Other individuals scoring were Michael Graber, third in shot put (48-1/2 on Tuesday); Tim Peterson, fourth in 300 intermediate hurdles (41.4) and seventh in 110 high hurdles (16.23); and Ryan Trapp, eighth in the 1600 (4:32.64).
“Tim Peterson also had a great meet,” said Gilbertson. “Tim has put in the extra work to get himself to this level.”
Blaine was champion, followed by Coon Rapids.
Next for the Elks is Section 7AA at Grand Rapids on Wednesday and Saturday.
