Track: Spectrum has 3 section qualifiers

Three Spectrum runners qualified for the Section 5A meet by placing in the top four of the sub-section on Tuesday in Dassel-Cokato.

Kayla Zimmerman won the 800 meter run in 2:30.02. Becca Schultz placed third in the 400 dash with 1:04.94. Sarina Staurseth placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with :52.41.

This is Spectrum’s first year with a track team. They had 24 members.

“We made great progress this year,” said coach Rick Peterson, “and have a very solid group to build a strong program for the future.”

The sectional will be held Wednesday, June 1, at St. John’s University.

Also scoring for the Specttrum girls were Emily Owens, eighth in the 3200 with 13:34.57; and the 4-by-400 relay of Zimmerman, Staurseth, Noelle Siebsen, and Schultz, fifth  in 4:41.49

In boys competition, Kelvin Diekman was sixth in long jump with 18-8 and sixth in the triple jump with 37-5 1/2, and Chad Schwinghammer placed fifth in 3200 with 11:10.56.
