An error started a two-run rally by Elk River as the Elks pulled out a tense playoff game 2-1 over St. Cloud Tech at home on Wednesday evening.

Elk pitcher Moriah Bruns spun a three-hitter with one strikeout, but made a throwing error in the fourth inning that scored Tech’s run. She fielded a bunt and overthrew second base.

With Tech pitcher Becca Sytsema cruising through five innings, and the Elks facing first-round eliminaton, Bruns got aboard on a booted ground ball to lead off the sixth.

Bethani Athey walked, and Courtney Jensen and Michaela Bruns followed with RBI singles, with Ali Krohn scoring the go-ahead run pinch-running for Athey.

Jensen and Michaela Bruns were each 2-for-3.

The Elks (15-6), seeded No. 2 in Section 8AAA, now advance to double-elimination on Monday in Brainerd, starting at noon. The Elks face Bemidji while Brainerd takes on Big Lake in the first round. At 2 p.m. winners meet and losers meet.
