Man hits parked car while following his kids home, arrested for DWI
A 36-year-old Elk River man was arrested for DWI and hit and run after he apparently struck a parked vehicle on the night of May 7 in the 18400 block of Olson St. Police were called to the scene about 11 p.m.
The suspect reportedly was following his kids, who were on bicycles, while he was driving his vehicle.
The victim’s vehicle had light damage to the driver’s side rear bumper and appeared to have been moved as a result of the impact. No one was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the reporting party said.
The suspect vehicle lost fluids and left a trail as it left the scene. Once police caught up with the suspect, he told them he didn’t know what to do after he struck the vehicle. He said he stopped briefly and then continued on with following his kids home on their bikes. His vehicle, which was parked in his garage by this point, had moderate front-end damage, according to Elk River Police Chief Brad Rolfe.
The suspect failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for fourth degree DWI (within two hours of driving) and hit and run crash into an unattended vehicle.
