EDA allocates $6,000 for July 4th celebration

Elk River Economic Development Authority voted unanimously to allocate $6,000 to the 2011 Elk River Independence Day celebration.

This is the same amount the EDA contributed to the event last year, and it’s in the EDA’s budget.

The event will be held on Monday, July 4, at Lions Park.

Jim Boyle, chairman of the Elk River Independence Day committee, said the second annual event  will be a family-friendly with food and entertainment capped by a fireworks show. An Elk River High School alumni band is forming for the event.

The Independence Day Committee will go before the Elk River City Council on Monday to request financial support. The City Council authorized up to $5,000 last year for the cost of police overtime and various program-related expenses.  The EDA’s contribution will go toward fireworks. The committee is developing a plan to raise about $10,000 in the community. Watch for details at www.ElkRiver4th.com.
