Lloyd E. Mathews, 87, of Elk River, previously of St. Louis Park, died Saturday, April 30, 2011.
He was a six-year Navy veteran who served during World War II. Mr. Mathews was a past master of Richfield Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Zurah Shrine Drum & Bugle Corps and past president of the Zurah Shrine Antique Cars.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at Union Congregational Church, 1118 Fourth St., Elk River (763-441-1203). Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Private interment will be held at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Guardian Angels of Elk River or Union Congregational Church. Cremation Society of Minnesota, Brooklyn Park served the family (763-560-3100).
Mr. Mathews is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie (Becken); daughters, Colleen, and Shannon (Marv) Loidolt; grandsons, Justin, Jared, and Jacob; sisters, Kathleen “Kitty” (Mike) Havlik, and Shirley (Ken) Lester; brother, Roger; longtime Navy “brothers” Ken Swantz and Jose Menendez; plus many other relatives and good friends.
He was preceded in death by sister Martha Hanna.
