Letter carriers will have food drive

Residents and business owners in the Elk River area have a chance to help a neighbor, a friend or the person on the street simply by leaving a plastic bag filled with non-perishable food items at the mailbox.

People are being asked to participate in the Saturday, May 14 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive hosted by U.S. letter carriers throughout the nation.

It is the largest one-day food drive in the United States.

The food collected goes to local food shelves. Last year food totaling 12,300 pounds was collected for the CAER food shelf in Elk River.

Not every post office is involved, so before leaving that bag of food at the mailbox, call the post office to see if it is participating.
