The first-ever Elk River High School softball night game is planned for Friday, May 6, against Osseo, 7:30 p.m., at the Lake Orono fields.
It’s an attempt to give more people a chance to see the high school team, whose games normally start at 4:15 p.m., said Sandy Hanson of the Elk boosters club.
The freshmen will play at 4:15 p.m., followed B squad and junior varsity games, and then the varsity.
It will also be Youth Night, with the first 75 youth softball players receiving ERHS Bag Tags that can be autographed by the players. Autograph team photos will be available with Elks varsity players starting at 5:45 p.m. Trivia games will be held between innings for prizes. A free combat softball bat will be given away at the fifth inning stretch.
Onsite concessions will be available with grilled hamburgers and hotdogs along with cold refreshments and coffee. All proceeds go to the Elk River Softball Booster club.
Live game announcing, music and audience participation will be included.
The weekend will also include a 16-team freshmen tournament on Saturday.
