Part of Proctor will become a city street

A portion of Proctor Road in Elk River is becoming a city street rather than a county road.
The Elk River City Council and the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners have approved a turnback agreement. Under the terms, Proctor from County Road 1 to County Road 33 will become a city street after Sherburne County completes a resurfacing project in 2011.
The county will also pay the city $15,200 to cover maintenance costs on the street for the next two years.
City Engineer Justin Femrite said the turnback benefits the city by increasing the city’s state aid mileage, and therefore the amount of money the city receives through an annual state aid allocation. It also affords the city an opportunity to review traffic control, lane striping and speed limits and gives the city control of right-of-way to plan for utility or trail facilities in the future.
