Four traffic signals will be painted brown
Four traffic signal systems will be painted this year in Elk River and they will be a new color: Brown.
The City Council has authorized the work to be done by OLS Restoration at a cost of $24,982. It was the lowest quote.
The signals that will be painted are three on Highway 169 — at 197th Avenue, 193rd Avenue and School Street — and at School Street and Freeport Avenue.
The signals have green bases, yellow posts and grey arms now.
They were due to be repainted, and City Engineer Justin Femrite recommended the switch to brown paint. He said it hides rust better and makes for a more attractive urban streetscape.
There are 18 traffic signal systems in Elk River and all were inspected recently. Additional signals that need painting will be done later.
