The Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman girls rallied for an 11-10 win over St. Cloud Tech with Morgan Pierson leading with six goals on Friday evening in St. Cloud.
“The moral of this team is amazing,” said coach Jeannette Bankes, adding that they have the ability to “rally when down, and slow down and control the game when points are needed.”
ERZ (4-2) trailed 8-4 at halftime but pushed ahead with seven second-half goals, and goalie Sam Geissler made “an amazing save,” said the coach, with 20 seconds left to preserve the win.
Pierson’s six-goal burst gives her 30 for the season. Kayla Mills delivered two goals and two assists, while Megan Orrock, Mackenzie Perna, and Ashley Joel scored one each. Assists by Pierson, Perna, Joel, Kim Scott and Abbie Wuolett.
“They are growing in skill sets,” said Bankes, “but most importantly in the strategic thinking needed to play this sport.”
ERZ will play at Maple Grove on Monday.
