Ivan Hunter Sether, 85, of Zimmerman, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at home.
He was born April 1, 1926, in Mountain Lake, Minn., to Henry and Ida (Hamland) Sether. He grew up and attended country school at Jackson, Minn.
He worked at home on the farm until entering the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Minnesota and bought land near Zimmerman in 1950. He married Mary Ann Zdenek on Oct. 25, 1951, in Anoka.
Mr. Sether farmed, raising chickens (for eggs) and cows and grew cucumbers for pickles. He also worked as the night security guard at Fingerhut in Princeton.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and trips to Grand Casino. According to his family, “He was a wise man, a good listener and was very well liked.”
The funeral service was Tuesday, April 26 at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial was at Baldwin Cemetery, Princeton.
Mr. Sether is survived by his children, Diane (Dennis) Daniels of Hutchinson, Gary (Lorraine) of Brooklyn Center, Kay Binkley of Little Falls, David of Hanover, Susan of Princeton, Henry (Judy) of East Bethel, Roxanne Rasmussen of Coon Rapids, Todd of Princeton, Linda Tomsche of Zimmerman, and Eric (Heather) of Zimmerman; 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ione Askeland of Loveland, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, in 2008, and a brother, Howard.
