Betty Jeanne Buck, 88, of Elk River, died peacefully Tuesday, April 19, 2011, on her 64th wedding anniversary.
She was born to Judson and Mae (Bendixen) Force in Sioux City, Iowa. After she graduated from Central High School she worked for the Wincharger Co. in Sioux City. She later moved with her parents to Long Beach, Calif., where she worked as a service representative supervisor for the Associated Telephone Co. She met Curtis Buck who was stationed there in the Coast Guard and they married on April 19, 1947. In 1959 they moved to Elk River where Mr. Buck was employed at the United Power Association until he retired.
Mrs. Buck was an avid reader and volunteered for many years at the Elk River Public Library. She enjoyed solving cross-word puzzles and playing board games such as Scrabble. In 1994 Betty was a finalist in a Senior Spelling Bee competition in Owatonna.
Over the years she sang in a number of different church choirs. Throughout the years she held different positions within the Lutheran churches and currently was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
She will be remembered as a wonderful conversationalist with a sharp mind, a quick wit, with a warm sense of humor.
Her funeral service was held Tuesday, April 26 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Internment was at Orono Cemetery in ElK River.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Curtis, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Buck was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy, Ruth, Robert, and Donald.
