Led by Chase Cleveland, the Rogers boys track team won the seven-team Big Lake Invitational on Thursday.
Cleveland won the 400 dash in 51.80, took second in the 200 with 23.21 and anchored the first-place 4-by-400 relay (3:37.22). The relay also had Kent Hoover, Trevor Berkley, and TJ Scott.
Caleb LeClaire won 3200 with 10:11.25. Charlie Hines was second in shot put and Berkley second in the triple jump with 37-7.
“Chase Cleveland and Trevor Berkley had outstanding performances on the track,” said coach Matt Webb,” and our relays scored us a lot of points. The boys have been working hard on their handoffs so it was fun to see their efforts pay off in the relays.”
Placing second were the 4-by-200 team of Justin Woods, Kieth Woods, Josh Wickeron, and Nathan Scharber. and the 4-by-100 team of Berkley, Woods, Nico Salas Velezsquez, and Scharber.
Royal girls fourth
The Royal girls placed fourth. Kirsten Heikkinen was second in the 100 dash (13.00) and fourth in the 200 (27.93) and anchored the first-place 4-by-100 team (53.21). Maddie Schaeffer was second in the 100 hurdles (16.89) and 300 hurdles (48.14) and pole vault (9-0) and anchored the third-place 4-by-400.
Schaeffer is running in the Hamline Elite Meet on Friday night.
