Softball: Elks lose to Centennial 12-6

One erratic inning by Elk River was costly in a 12-6 loss to the Centennial Cougars on a cold, wet Wednesday in Circle Pines.


Dani Edwards drove home five runs for the Elks, going 2-for-5, including a three-run double.


The Elks (6-4) made four errors, three of them in the fifth when Centennial (6-2) scored seven runs to erase a 6-5 Elk lead.


The Elks had 11 hits off Stephanie Kappes, who went the distance, walking three and striking out seven.


Moriah Bruns took the loss, giving up 10 runs (six earned) in four-plus innings, and Courtey Jensen finished, giving up two runs in two frames.


Kristen Norby was 3-for-3 and Sophie Love 2-for-3 with three RBI for Centennial.


For the Elks, Kaitlyn Roche was 2-for-4 (RBI), Bruns 2-for-4 (double, RBI), Jensen 2-for-4 (two runs), Michaela Bruns 1-for-2 (two runs), Kayti Hanson 1-for-2, and Bethani Athey 1-for-3 (double).


The Elks will host Champlin Park on Thursday.
