Golf: Muenzhuber, Rogers win again in Miss. 8 boys

Corey Muenzhuber was medalist for the second straight meet as Rogers won its second straight Mississippi 8 boys golf meet on a chilly Thursday at Wild Marsh in Buffalo.


The Royal junior shot 70 and won by five strokes including a school-record nine of 31. His teamme McCabe Buege had 75, as did Matt Swenson of Cambridge-Isanti.


Rogers scored 306, Cambridge-Isantii 319,  Buffalo 322, Becker 332, St. Michael-Albertville 340, Monticello 351, Zimmerman 359, Princeton 394 and  Big Lake 404.


Rogers’ other counting scores were Morgan Rask’s 79 and Zach Hnath’s 82.


Muenzhuber birdied his first hole in the shotgun start, the par 3 8th.  He lipped out birdie putts on 9 and 10 also while shooting a 39.


His putter lit up the rest of his game as he came back to the front to shoot a school record 31 for the side that included five birdies and one bogey.


Buege continued his steady play fighting a sore shoulder in the raw windy day. Other than two doubles, his golf was solid  including a 300-plus yard drive to 148 yards on the 18th hole.  Rask had solid putting and good on course game management.


Zimmerman’s counting scores were Derek Faulkner’s 88,  Corey Foyt 89, Brian Barbeln 89, and Tommy Hannan 93.


Rogers and Zimmerman will play at the Brainerd Invitational next Thursday.
