Baseball: Royals nip Thunder 2-0

Blake Schermer and reliever Dylan Morris combined for a three-hit shutout as the Rogers Royals nipped the Zimmerman Thunder 2-0 at home Thursday.

Tough-luck losing pitcher was Kyle Connelly with a complete-game, four-hitter and six strikeouts. He also had two of Zimmerman’s three hits.

Schermer pitched 5 1/3 innings, leaving in the sixth after issuing his sixth and seventh walks of the game. Morris got the last five outs. They had only one strikeout each but gave up few hard-hit balls.

Rogers led 1-0 in the second when Austin Barbeln singled, stole second and scored on an error. In the third, Will Terres and Luke Belflower singled, and Terres scored on Bjorn Bloom’s sacrifice fly.

On Monday, Monticello will play at Rogers, and Zimmerman at Big Lake.
