The Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman girls lacrosse team defeated Andover 17-10 on Monday evening in Andover, with Morgan Pierson leading a strong second-half effort by the Elks (2-0).

Pierson scored five goals, while Emily Antony added four goals, and Kayla Mills two goals and four assists. Scoring a goal each were Augustina Alvarez, Becca Leshovsky, Jordan McLaughlin, Megan Orrock, and Mackenzie Perma.

“In the second half we showed ability to control the game with passing and shooting,” said coach Jeannette Bankes. “The team is starting to work together on offensive plays and defensive zone coverage.”

The coach cited defenders Ashley Joel, Kim Scott, and Rose Fredell, and goalie Sam Geissler, on the defensive end. Geissler faced 31 shots with just 10 getting into the net.

Next scheduled game is Champlin Park at home Wednesday.
