Baseball: Thunder lose to Bluejackets 13-4, mound staff ailing

Zimmerman’s pitching staff is ailing early in the season and the Thunder dropped to 1-4 with a 13-4 loss to Cambridge-Isanti on Tuesday.

Kam Crandall (1-1) was supposed to start, but has a sore arm, said coach Matt Kraus, adding that Kyle Connelly is the only one of the top four starters able to go at this time.

“We’re pretty much out of the conference race, with four losses already,” said Kraus. “But when we get (Christian) Korlath, (Alex) Borchardt and Kam back on the mound, we’re a good team. And other guys will get some experience now, so maybe this can be good, down the line.”

Blake Ehley (2 1/3 innings, three runs), Joe Neilson (1/3 inning, six runs) and Brandon Giese (3 1/3 innings, four runs) did the pitching against the Bluejackets.

Matt Milless had three RBI on a two-run single and sac fly.

Zimmerman will play at Rogers on Thursday.
