Zimmerman sophomore Sylvia Michels earned a berth in the state speech contest by placing second in Section 5A last Saturday at Sauk Centre.
Michaels performed a piece from “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath in the Serious Prose category.
“She is really good,” noted Angie Bickman, speech club coach, adding, “This will be Zimmerman Speech’s fourth year in a row at state, and Sylvia’s first year competing.”
The state contest was to be held at Chanhassen High School yesterday (April 15).
Zach Raph placed fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Nikki Neuha placed sixth in Humorous. The top three in each advance to state. Other ZHS contestants were Miranda Berndt and Brenna Lesnar.
