The Rogers Royal were runners-up to Osseo in the 15-team Monticello Invitational on Wednesday to open the season.
Osseo had 303, Rogers 312, Cambridge-Isanti 318, Spring Lake Park 319, and Buffalo 324 in the top five.
Osseo had the top two shooters in Ross Miller with 72 and Dalton Charboneau with 73.
Phil Ballard of Rogers shot 74 for third place. Other Royal scores were Andy Suedbeck 79, Morgan Rask 79, Zach Hnath 80, Kyle Korva 82, and Justin Bunkers 82. Rask lipped six putts, and was even-par on the back.
“We were happy to finally get a competitive round in after the long winter and flooded spring,” said Rogers coach Dan Bursheim.
“I thought that the boys played well after a rusty first few holes and the jitters of little varsity experience — five of the six have 14 matches total among them.”
Bursheim noted that Ballard “proved he has the game to be an impact player on our team.”
Rogers will play in the huge Coon Rapids Invitational on Thursday.
