Baseball: Elks tumble Blaine 9-3

Brandon Meyer tossed a complete game and Elk River ripped 15 hits in a 9-3 win over the Blaine Bengals there Wednesday.

Meyer gave up just five hits and two walks, and struck out five. Two of the three runs were unearned.

Sam Krick was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI for the Elks (2-2), and Logan Paige was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Matt Williams was 3-for-5 (double, RBI),  Tim Sanford 2-for-4 (RBI) and Corey Collins 2-for-5.

“Brandon pitched really well, and we got 15 hits. It was a good team effort,” said coach Barry Hohlen. “Our defense was a little better. The kids are gaining confidence. We are trying to work hard every day and get better at the game of baseball.”

Cole Mortenson, first of three Blaine pitchers, took the loss.

The Elks will play at Coon Rapids on Thursday.
