Baseball: Maple Grove tips Elks 7-4
The Maple Grove Crimson built a 7-1 lead and defeated Elk River 7-4 on Monday in Maple Grove.
Alex Naasz hit a two-run homer for the Crimson, who had only five hits but benefitted from nine walks and four Elk errors.
Mitchell Bauer pitched five innings (one run) for the win. Nat Croaker pitched 1 2/3 innings and the Elks got three runs off him in the seventh. Tyler Field got the last out.
Aaron Pipenhagen took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings. Ben Svardahl pitched 2/3 and gave up a run. Sam Krick and Brady Givens each had a scoreless inning.
At the plate for the Elks, Matt Williams was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, Brandon Meyer 2-for-3, Logan Paige 1-for-4 (RBI), Aaron Pipenhagen 1-for-2, Tim Sanford 1-for-2, Tucker Morrell 0-for-1 with two walks and two runs, and Ben Svardahl 1-for-1 with a walk
The Elks (1-2) will play at Blaine on Wednesday.
