Softball: Elks snag Osseo 4-2 in opener
Kaitlyn Roche socked a two-run double in the top of the seventh as Elk River defeated the Osseo Orioles 4-2 in their opener Thursday at Osseo.
Moriah Bruns pitched the distance, and got a big assist from her sister Michaela in the last of the seventh. The third baseman snagged a line drive and tagged out a runner at third for a game-ending double play.
Roche was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Courtney Jensen was 2-for-3 with a double and scored the go-ahead run. Moriah Bruns had a triple and Michaela had a double.
Moriah was nicked for nine hits and two walks, but held Osseo to just a pair of runs, one unearned. She struck out five.
Elk River beat the Orioles for the first time since 2007. Their ace hurler who beat the Elks six times the last three years graduated. Taking the loss was Courtney Caulkins, who gave up six hits and three walks.
Kayla Kreuter, Justine Simon, and Gina Winn each had two hits for Osseo.
Elk River will play at Maple Grove on Monday.
