Fire department calls up so far this year
The Elk River Fire Department has had a busy start to 2011.
Call volume is up 55 percent during the first two months of 2011, compared to the same time a year ago.
The fire department responded to 93 calls for service in January and February 2011, compared to 60 during the same period in 2010, according to Fire Chief T. John Cunningham.
Rescues, including vehicle accidents, accounted for 34 of the 93 calls this year. There were seven fires.
The average response time to calls is six minutes.
