Cold spell helps reduce flood threat

The weather has cooperated in Elk River’s  on-going concern about potential spring flooding.
Fire Chief T. John Cunningham said the recent cold spell, specifically with below-freezing nights, has greatly lowered the threat of widespread flooding.
Cunningham, who also serves as the city’s  director of emergency management, said Thursday that the city has not had any reports of localized flooding as of yet. There also has not been any impact on the city’s infrastructure.
The city has distributed more than 3,200 sandbags.
