Eva. G. Landes, 95, of Elk River, died peacefully Friday, March 18, 2011, at New River Nursing Home in Monticello.
She was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Sellersville, Pa. to Linc and Hannah (Souder) Gehman.
On March 27, 1937, she and Mark N. Landes were married in Souderton, Pa. The couple had a dairy farm in Pennsylvania, but later moved to Cass Lake, Minn. to work with the Native Americans with the local Mennonite church.
Their whole life revolved around ministry and traveling. Their hospitality in their small farmhouse was amazing. Mrs. Landes cooked thousands of meals from their huge gardens; she also enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing and crocheting, reading and entertaining her grandkids. In her later years, she crocheted hundreds of caps and mittens for the homeless.
Visitation will be today (Saturday, March 26) at 10 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel, 300 Main St. N., St. Michael. Her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Gideon Bibles. Cards for Gideon Bibles will be available at the funeral home.
She is survived by her children, Gerald (Judy) of Phoenix, Ariz., David (Sherry) of East Bethel, James (Mary) and Jay of Bemidji, and Joy (Greg) Maher of Otsego; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Bergey of Telford, Pa.; brother, Lester (Jean) of Landsdale, Pa.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, in 1981 and a brother, Earl.
