Basketball: Royal boys rout Becker 73-43 in playoff opener
The Rogers Royals pummeled the Becker Bulldogs 73-43 in their Section 5AAA opener at home Thursday evening.
Junior center Michael Schreiber led with 20 points, including 6-for-8 at the line. Senior forward Rory Donovan scored 15, senior forward Trevor Morlock 12, and senior guard R.J. Dean 10.
In their homecourt finale, Rogers (18-8) dominated the rebounding on both ends, especially in the second half.
Becker got 23 points from junior 6-8 forward Damien Reinke, including three 3-point shots.
Becker finished 7-19 but had split with the Royals in conference play. Rogers won the first game 67-44 and the Bulldogs won the next one 75-67.
The Royals, seeded No. 2 in the section, now face No. 3 Big Lake (16-11) on Saturday at St. Cloud State beginning 11:45 a.m. The Royals and Hornets split two conference games.
The other semifinal will have top-seeded Orono (24-4) vs. No. 4 Delano (19-8) at 10 a.m. The finals are scheduled for Thursday at 9 p.m.
