Meetings set regarding Bailey Point

The city of Elk River is continuing to move forward with possibly acquiring Bailey Point for a park.
The city is working with the Minnesota Land Trust and also compiling a grant application for funds to help buy the point. Bailey Point is located west of downtown Elk River at the confluence of the Elk and Mississippi rivers.
Here’s the latest:
•The Elk River Park and Recreation Commission will host a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 on the preliminary layout and development of the proposed park at Bailey Point, which is anticipated to be kept in a mostly natural state. The proposal will then come back to the city council for consideration. “It does not need to be a final plan, but we do need to have something prelminary to submit with the grant request. That’s why we’re moving ahead with that at this time,” City Admministrator Lori Johnson said.
Council Member Matt Westgaard said he’d also like the park commission to report on the anticipated costs to develop the park and maintain it annually as well as how to fund those costs.
•The grant application is due March 31. The city council will host a grant public hearing Monday, March 21. The council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Elk River City Hall.
•An appraisal of the point is being handled by the Minnesota Land Trust and is due to be completed March 28.
