Parade of Homes includes energy efficiency

A model home in Rogers is part of an Energy Efficient Home Tour that runs from March 5–April 3 as part of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities Parade of Homes.
Christian Builders and Remodelers built the home at 21138 Foxtail Lane in the Fletcher Hills development.
Brad Richardson, president of Christian Builders and Remodelers, said the home had to meet or exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines for an Energy Star home to be part of the Energy Efficient Home Tour.
An outside company inspected the home twice during construction and then tested it when it was completed. It exceeded the EPA guidelines, Richardson said.
While the home is energy efficient, it also has very good indoor air quality.
“We have to make sure that we minimize the leaks, but we also have good ventilation to offset it,” Richardson said.
The home is reasonable to heat and cool and comfortable in every location, he said.
What will probably get some of the most buzz, however, is a toilet in the home Richardson describes as “unique.”
In the tank is a sink. “When you flush the toilet, the water fills through a faucet into the sink into the tank,” he explained. It’s completely sanitary and a way for people to save water when they wash their hands.
Overall, the three-bedroom, two-bath, rambler-style home has a vaulted great room, kitchen and dining room. It also has a walk-in pantry, a laundry room adjacent to the kitchen and a master suite with a master bath and walk-in closet. It is priced at $284,000.
The home is one of 94 verified homes on the Energy Efficient Home Tour. One of them is also located in Otsego, at 7290 Mackenzie Ave. That four-bedroom home was built by Lennar and is priced at $262,240.
